RV-ing may or may not be for roughing it. After all, you have opted not to sleep in a tent for a reason, whether you’re in a comfortable motorhome in a RV park, or whether you’re boondocking out in the wild. Many times, compromising on comfort has more to do with not knowing what your options are. Under the best of circumstances, an RV is not going to be as well insulated as a house. They are also manufactured according to a carefully controlled profit margin. This can result in walls that are not the best at holding in hot or cold air, and sometimes less A/C than is called for. If you have not purchased your RV yet or are considering purchasing a new one, you may consider having a second (or third) unit added and financing it in your new loan.

So How Do We Approach Temperature?

How We Address Sleeping Environments

In your sleeping environment, this can be especially challenging, since most sources agree that humans sleep better when it is cooler at bedtime. We address this in a few ways. One is to use cooling gel, which is infused into the top layer of memory foam in most of our mattresses. This uses a technology called PCM, or phase change material. It transitions between a solid and a liquid inside the mattress, which conducts heat away from the body. Another way we address this is by using a cotton poly blend fabric. While cotton is more durable, we find that poly allows for more airflow, and using a blend gives us the best of both of them. We also have cooling fabrics available as an upgrade.

Cooling is Not for Everyone

Cooling is great for our clients in the Southeast, but our clients in other parts of the country may not want cooling at all. Many people even travel between different climates and need different things at different times. For this type of situation, we would recommend getting two different fabric covers made, one for hot weather and one for cold. In addition to temperature, this can be nice when one of your covers needs to be washed.

The Right Setup is Important

Keeping your temperature comfortable in an RV or camper can be a challenge, but having the right setup in your bedroom can make this a lot easier. Different things are important to different people. If you think you could be sleeping better but you’re not exactly sure what to do, give us a call and we will figure it out together.
